So, as previously mentioned, I need a new psychologist, as my current one is retiring. I found one online who looked good and sent her a message. She hasn't responded. Now, there are a ton of reasons why she might not respond - everything from technical problems to not being interested in my case. However, finally, yesterday, I thought, "If she isn't a person who is prompt with email, then I may not want her as a psychologist." I'm going to call her tomorrow, so it isn't like I have dismissed her already. The important thing, though, is that I have finally moved in my mind from being in a position where I am begging for help to a position where I am a client who will purchase a service. Today, I'll come up with nine more doctors who also look good, and I'll call all of them tomorrow. When I was first looking for a psychologist, I just called everyone in the phone book, and my current psychologist was the only person who got back to me. It is easy, when you aren't well, to take a lack of response as rejection or a sign of some larger problem. I'm glad that I have finally moved from being desperate to being more reasonable. I have until December to find a new doctor, and there are a lot of psychologists in the world. I will eventually find someone. Hopefully, I will continue to feel reasonable about this.

I did it!!!

I emailed all the psychologists!

I went through the list of psychologists who treat brain injuries in Maryland and emailed all the ones who seemed acceptable (a total of twelve). At least two of them do video counseling, which helps me get over the fear that that part will be completely unacceptable to all doctors. (Someone I know messaged me and said that I should lie to my psychologist about living outside the country, because no one would ever be willing to work with me. I think this is just about the worst advice ever, and obviously this person doesn't know me at all if they think I would do such a thing. But it has been at the back of my mind freaking me out since then. Just what I needed.) The doctors all have pluses and minuses. For example, one is older (a minus because I want a forever doctor), but she was a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa (could be a plus) and has published papers on insulin and mood (a definite plus). Hopefully, at least one of them will respond to me.
