More stressful stuff
Feb. 23rd, 2023 10:35 pmToday, I managed to get two stressful emails (that weren't actually stressful but that I was too stressed to want to do) off my list. I also sent out some info to my players for the one-shot and to the writing group for a brief presentation I will do on journaling games (just "this is what they are and here are some examples"). I hope that having dealt with these things will calm me down a little. This level of anxiety seems pretty typical for me after travelling, so it isn't a surprise, just annoying.
In interesting news, my psychologist told me about a website called Focusmate. You sign up for time slots, they pair you with a person, then you and the person meet, talk about what you are doing briefly, then do your work quietly. When you are done, you talk briefly about what you completed/achieved. I get really anxious when thinking of talking to people I don't know. Granted, I usually am doing it in a foreign language, but I am still pretty stressed even if I can communicate. (Note: actually talking to people is fine. It is thinking about it that upsets me.) If I could do this for 25 or 50 minutes per day, I could get more writing done and also work on decreasing my anxiety. I'm not ready for it yet, but I'm going to put a reminder in my calendar to see if I feel ready in a week or so. I'll keep putting the reminder in every two weeks until I can handle it. Obviously, if I don't enjoy it, then I won't do it after the first time. The problem is that even if I do enjoy it, I may still have trouble getting myself to do it. The thought of interacting with people I don't know (or even people I do know but haven't seen in a while) is pretty anxiety-inducing. It isn't that I'm afraid of something specific. I just have anxiety about it. However, doing this could be really useful. The service is free three times a week, which may be enough. However, I would pay their $7/month to have less anxiety about dealing with other humans. (Oh, geez. I just looked at their pricing, and they seem to be willing to help out people who can't afford their fees. * cries *)
