A visit to the new house
Dec. 10th, 2023 07:51 pmWe went up to the new house, and the roof is definitely not leaking. :) Looking at it, there are definitely some bits that I'm not thrilled with, like where the roof meets the beam that supports it, there are sections where you can see daylight between them. This isn't the hugest issue, as I think we can just slide some wedges in the gaps (maybe with some wood glue) to seal them up, but really? There are other spots too, like half-assed concrete work, etc. However, we still love the house.
I got the new mailbox put up and then got to work on the garden. I pulled a bunch of weeds and picked up a lot of garbage in the yard. That definitely helps things look better. There are a ton of stinging nettles, so we are going to need to deal with those. Step 1 is to get the soil tested, because if there are no sketchy chemicals, then we should be able to fry up the leaves and eat them. I found a place that will hopefully do the soil testing and have emailed them. We decided that we want to take out the oleander and bell flower plant in the yard, since they are both really toxic. I'll cut them way back first, then see how much of the stumps and roots I can get out. To that end, I got another pair of work gloves, a small saw, a pair of clippers, and some big garbage bags.
