I finally figured out the overhead cloud issue. The majority of it is in shadow, since the light is coming from the top of it. However, around the edges, you are going to have light. You are also going to have big walls of white clouds, plus some spillover of the light where it gets through the edges of the clouds. Phew! I'm glad I figured this out. It took three hours to fix the overhead cloud in my painting, but now it looks right. Hopefully, from now on, I won't have to struggle so much with them (I wrote all my observations down in my notes).
